FAQ'S
RFID
Q: What frequency range to the readers operate in?
A: FCC frequency for RFID in North America is 902-928 MHz. The readers all operate around 915 MHz. Readers will not interfere with WiFi.
Q: How and when will we receive the MAC address and the reader?
A: The MAC address will be supplied by a Topanga CSM about 1 week prior to install, along with a pre-install checklist that must be completed prior to the morning of the tech’s arrival. The tech will arrive with all hardware/readers.
Q: What is the range of the RFID reader?
A: It depends on the reader and setup, but typically the range for picking up reads is about 5-7 feet.
Q: What is the wattage needed to support PoE+?
A: The POE+ requirement is 802.3at which is 25.5 Watts.
Q: Can RFID be installed on WiFi?
A: We don’t recommend it, but yes, antennas can be connected via WiFi. If you decide to go with WiFi readers, please note that there may be lost data as a result of network issues.
Q: Are there any materials that will interfere with the RFID readers?
A: Metals will interfere with the readers ability to register a tag, which means asset types and transport vessels should not be made of stainless steel or other metals.
SSO
Q: SSOÂ package indicates Topanga uses AWS as a collocate database. Where is your primary database house?
A: Our AWS stores in the US-West region.
Q: Does Topanga encrypt in transit and at rest?
A: Yes, we are SOC2 compliant, a copy of our policy is downloadable from this page.
Q: Will our campus have its own unique tenant environment?
A: No, campuses do not have their own unique tenant environment.
Q: Does current SSO software have compatibility with Azure ADFS?
A: Yes, as long as it supports SAML for SSO.
Q: Is the only stored PII information ID, email, and name? Assuming all share the tenant database space, how are customers notified in case of a breach?
A: The fields captured are only the ones campus allows. Users will be emailed in the event of a breach.
How will our students information be removed if the contact is ended?
Student PII information is scrubbed when they are removed from the system.
SCANAPP
Q: Can we use Apple’s iPhone for ScanApp’s?
A: No, the ScanApp is an app available in the google play store, Android devices are required.
Q: What Android models work for the ScanApp?
Refurbished Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices are both compatible. We recommend the Samsung Galaxy A15 and newer.
Q: Does the ScanApp require active service?
A: No, we recommend devices are connected to a secure campus WiFi network. If WiFi connection is not available, the device can be put on a cellular plan.
Q: Can we drop an ethernet connection for the ScanApp’s?
A: Yes, you can run the ScanApp’s off of ethernet. Linked HERE is an adapter clients have used.
Q: How are the devices managed?
A: We suggest you put the devices on campus’s existing MDM software. However, if you need to leverage Topanga’s management software Hexnode, you can work with the CSM to complete this setup. See the ScanApp page for more info.
